Chasing after social services, chasing after advocates, learning the law and reading and analysing government and parliamentary acts. Just some of the things unpaid carers right across the UK are having to do to either access support and services or raise a complaint.
It honestly feels like the systems that are meant to support us were deliberately designed to work against us instead. They try to tie us in knots with legal jargon, deny the facts, try blaming other services and some even use intimidation tactics when we raise a complaint. All this happens because nobody is holding any of the services many of us rely on to account and nobody seems willing to accept responsibility. Asked about needs assessments not being carried out in a fair and timely manner, Eluned Morgan, Minister for health and social care in Wales completely ignored the subject and started mentioning other things instead of answering the question.
Just for once it would be nice if we had a service that did exactly what it says on the tin with none of the added hassle and frustration.
